Alkaline Treatment

what to expect

_______

before your treatment:.

  • Prior to treatment please avoid direct sun exposure
  • Avoid using exfoliants or vitamin A for 48 hours before your treatment
  • To provide your skin with preparation and strength and to receive the best possible outcome and minimal down time we recommend that you use our DMK Beta Gel, Contraderm/Betagen and EFA Ultra at a minimum prior to your Alkaline treatment.
  • Inform us if anything has changed in your medications or health since we saw you for a patch test

afterwards:

  • You may feel some stinging
  • The skin may feel tender - more so in areas that were worked on and in spots where impurities were extracted. This will subside quickly.
  • Your skin might feel shiny and “slippery”.
  • You might feel red, hot and tender

possible temporary responses

  • Redness and a slight sandpaper effect on the skin.
  • Irritation
  • An outbreak of existing pimples and other impurities (as the free water levels are increased in the skin, dead skin cells are desquamated and trapped sebum and congestion will be pushed to the surface)
  •  A rush of oil over night or the next day. This will normalise after 48 hours
  • Two to three days after Alkaline the skin will feel dry and tight, maybe a bit itchy as your dead cells have loosened (this is when you’ll need to exfoliate - see below!)
  • A slight burning sensation or “sunburn” sensation
  • A small amount of scabbing like gravel rash (this is more likely to occur on a first treatment and cannot harm the skin if it is left to come off naturally - so don't stress and don’t pick...)
  • An open lesion may weep and then scab and heal normally. If you experience this notify your HÜD Skin Therapist so we can direct you on how to look after it.
  • Pigmented lesions may look darker, however this is an expected outcome of the process used to reduce the pigmentation and is only temporary

what to avoid after

_______

The first 72 hours:

  • If you do experience swelling you can apply a cool compress at home to minimise discomfort.
  • Please refrain from using any active products on the treated area such as  (vitamin a (Revitosin) , AHA and BHA exfoliants and spot treatments (like acu therm ect)  for a minimum of 2 days (if we’ve done a stronger revision, stop use for 1 week or until skin has healed).
The skin will be sensitised so it’s best to keep your routine post treatment nice and gentle!
  • Keep up the water intake and EFA’s - we want to keep lots of water in the skin to get that pigment moving up and strengthening the cells who distribute the pigment in our skin
  • Avoid hot baths and hot showers for 72 hours. Avoid anything that involves chlorine (e.g. swimming)
  • Don’t apply makeup to the treated area or perfumed products, bleaching creams or fake tans for at least 72 hours post treatment. .
  • Avoid activities that cause excessive perspiration for 72 hours after treatment such as: exercise, spas, saunas etc.
  • Use only DMK Home Prescriptive products on the treated area, as prescribed by your HUD Skin Therapist, as the use of non-prescribed products may impact the treatment outcome.
  • Apply a spf recommended or approved by your HUD Skin Therapist on the treated area
  • Don’t pick, scratch or irritate the treatment area during the recovery period.
  • Use Beta Gel, Contraderm, Actrol Powder and ice for post treatment relief
  • 3 post treatment, exfoliate with Micro Peel or Exoderma followed with Acu Masque or Hydrating Masque - or Home Enzyme Mask, to alleviate any post treatment symptoms. This is important in order to reduce post treatment breakouts

what to remember

As with any treatment, there is always a very small possibility that you could have an adverse response that the clinician could not predict. If you’re worried or are experiencing any symptoms you’re worried about please contact us.
